US Textile Group Said The Export Of Chinese Clothing To The US Increased Sharply After The Quota Was Abolished.

According to the import clothing data released by the US Department of Commerce, the share of Chinese clothing in the US market gradually increased after the quota was abolished.

The latest figures show that the unemployment rate in the US textile and apparel industry is increasing rapidly.

According to the Ministry of Commerce, despite the shrinking retail market and import reduction, imports from China, mainly the original quota products, including trousers, underwear and shirts, increased by 36% in January 2009. In order to gain market share, Chinese exporters also reduced their prices by about 20%.

Johnson, chairman of the American Textile Group Association, said that because of China's increase in clothing exports to the United States, the American textile and garment factory suffered from the risk of bankruptcy and 20 thousand people were unemployed.

The main reason is the lack of labor costs resulting from trade enforcement.

Johnson asked the government to start monitoring projects promised in October 2008 as soon as possible.

He also mentioned that the 2009 fiscal year comprehensive appropriation act, which was approved by the government, called for the government to carry out monitoring projects for textiles and clothing in China and Vietnam.

Johnson said, "China has provided at least 63 subsidies to support textile exports, and China has begun to provide billions of dollars in new subsidies before the US quota is lifted."

Changes in imports of original quota products

According to the data released by the United States International Trade Commission, in January 2009, the United States imported 2 billion 590 million dollars of textiles and clothing from China, an increase of 18.2% over the same period. The proportion of textiles and clothing imported by China in the United States accounted for 36.1% of the total imports, while the proportion of textile garments imported from China accounted for 35.4% in 2008.

According to the preliminary data provided by the US International Trade Commission, the market share of the original quota products increased by 4.4 percentage points from the quota cancellation to 42%.

Johnson pointed out that the preliminary data of the house raising Committee asked for a surge in subsidized imports. If the situation is true, the government should take immediate action.
