According to the emergency conference call for drought relief in Xinjiang, Xinjiang suffered the most severe drought since 1974. The drought in spring and summer has become a foregone conclusion in most parts of Xinjiang, resulting in large crop failures. 280 million acres of grasslands are droughts and animal husbandry is seriously affected.

Nur Bekri, chairman of the people's Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, said that judging from the drought in recent years, the possibility of continuous drought in Xinjiang in the next few years has increased significantly.

To this end, Xinjiang should combine recent and long-term measures to speed up the construction of electromechanical wells, make rational use of groundwater for drought relief, comprehensively promote water-saving irrigation technology, speed up planning of controlled water conservancy projects in mountainous areas, strengthen weather modification work, further strengthen infrastructure construction for drought resistance, and effectively enhance the comprehensive ability of drought relief.

According to the water conservancy department of the autonomous region, up to now, the drought area of crops in Xinjiang has reached 12 million 200 thousand mu, with a disaster area of 6 million 400 thousand mu, and 1 million 320 thousand mu of crops. Wheat, corn, oil, sugar beet, cotton and other crops suffered severe drought, of which only nearly 490 thousand mu of wheat were collected (excluding Xinjiang production and Construction Corps).

In addition, the drought area of Xinjiang grassland accounts for 38% of the total area, and some grass pastures generally yield 30% to 40%, and about 500000 mu of forage base.

Drought affected areas in Tacheng and Aletai accounted for 60% of the available grassland area, especially in the two quarter of spring and autumn. The output of grass decreased by 70% to 95% over the previous years.

At the same time, drought also led to the occurrence of pests and rodents, and the damage area was 33 million 430 thousand mu.

At present, about 12000000 livestock in Xinjiang are unable to graze normally due to disasters, and about 200000 of the herdsmen have been affected.

According to the forecast of the meteorological department of the autonomous region, the possibility of widespread heavy precipitation in Xinjiang in late July is relatively small. The average temperature is still higher than that in the same period. It is estimated that from August to October, the average temperature of Xinjiang is still higher than that of the whole year. The precipitation is still less than that of the whole year. The drought will continue to intensify in the later stage. In addition, the soil moisture loss is serious. The continuous drought will directly threaten the agricultural and livestock production in the autumn of Xinjiang.
